Vitamin D And Testicles For Testosterone

What do vitamin D and testicles have in common?

Though your penis gets the lion’s share of attention, your testicles are the support personnel that makes its performance possible.

What goes on in them is not only more complex than the simple, mechanical processes in your penis, it’s a lot more important to your sexual health.

Today I want to talk with you about how Vitamin D affects the processes in your testicles.

Though some of the research is ongoing; what science has found so far suggests it’s one of the most important nutrients for testicular health.

Let’s take a look at everything Vitamin D does for your junk.

Vitamin D Boosts Testosterone

Testosterone is made in your testicles and is the central hormone that drives sexual performance.

What produces more testosterone produces longer; stronger and better erections along with a stronger libido to go along with them.

Three strong recent studies have found direct correlations between Vitamin D intake and increased testosterone:

  • In 2008, a study of 199 men and women age 65+ at the University Hospital Zurich researched a correlation between DHEA-S levels and risk of falling. One corollary finding of the study was a direct increase in testosterone (up to 84% among men and 85% among women) in subjects who took a Vitamin D + calcium supplement.
  • At the Medical University of Graz, Austria, a 2010 study built on work with rodents, performing a study of testosterone levels of 2299 men. The found a significant correlation between intake of Vitamin D supplements and levels of all androgenic hormones, especially testosterone.
  • Another study at Graz, this one in 2011, conducted randomized trials on 164 participants for one year. Those who took a Vitamin D supplement experienced a significant increase in testosterone levels; while the placebo control group showed no such change.

Short version: Vitamin-D increases testosterone.

More testosterone means better testicular and sexual health.

Though there are no sure things with sexual health, taking a Vitamin D supplement can directly improve the situation in one of the most influential factors on your sexual health.

Vitamin D is an Aromatase Inhibitor

Aromatase Inhibitor (n): a substance that inhibits the uptake of aromatase. Clear enough?

Sorry, here’s what you need to know about that sentence. Aromatase in an enzyme that converts testosterone to estrogen.

An inhibitor, in medical terms, is something that prevents a body process. SSRI medications are (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) that block reuptake of serotonin in brains that have serotonin reuptake issues.

Vitamin D does the same to aromatase, meaning it stops (or significantly reduces) transformation of testosterone to estrogen.

A recent study found that Vitamin D reduced expression of aromatase, and thus reduced transformation of testosterone to estrogen.

The study was conducted to examine the role of this process in breast cancer, and was done on rats — but the research team is confident enough that the findings can be generalized they are beginning research into human subjects.

Another study, this one at the Danish Cancer Society Research Center in Copenhagen, showed similar results.

Even low doses of a Vitamin D analog directly reduced aromatase function.

Again, this was performed toward cancer treatment, but the results are generalizable.

The mechanic they studied (reduction of aromatase by Vitamin D) happens consistently, no matter what type of cancer is being treated.

Taken together, these two studies plus the three above show a powerful one-two punch from Vitamin D to improve testicular and sexual health.

(1) You produce more testosterone.

(2) Your body converts less of it to estrogen. Like net profits anywhere else, this is good for your “testosterone bottom line.”

Vitamin D Improves Semen Quality

Anthropologists and fertility experts have known for decades that people in northern countries are less likely to conceive during the winter than in the summer.

In the past 10 years or so, science has paid more attention to the impact of sunlight exposure (and Vitamin-D) on general and sexual health.

Specifically, a 2008 Australian study found a correlation between Vitamin D insufficiency and infertility in both men and women.

Further research found “surprisingly good fertility outcomes” among men who underwent a course of treatment including increased Vitamin D intake.

Other research has determined that Vitamin-D is absolutely vital to tissue health in sperm cells. Without this nutrient, the nucleus can’t develop correctly.

A deficiency leads directly to lower sperm count and reduced sperm health, while studies have found an increase in sperm count and health in subjects given vitamin D.

Iva Keen, one of the nation’s foremost fertility experts and the writer of Natural Fertility Prescription proposed Vitamin D supplements as a replacement for the doctor-pushed IVF and assisted reproductive technology treatments.

According to her, those don’t address the causes of infertility; whereas Vitamin D directly improves semen quality and fertility naturally.

Vitamin D and Testicles Conclusion:

Natural health expert Dr. Mercola says Vitamin D is one of the most important variables in fertility and sexual health for both men and women.

The research supports him.

More Vitamin D leads to more testosterone and better semen production; combined with less estrogen which equates to bigger and healthier testicles.

Bigger and healthier testicles do a better job of delivering the hormones your body needs for a strong erection and good sex.

Add to that Vitamin D’s impact on mental health, energy and libido, and it’s a good idea to go ahead and start taking a little of the “sunlight” vitamin today.

Even if your sexual health is solid; it won’t hurt to take some in the winter when your sun access is reduced.

The research above, combined with other studies on Vitamin D’s impact on other systems, suggests a daily dose of 3,333 IUs is the Minimum amount of Vitamin-D you should take daily as a supplement.

Or even better, expose your entire body to natural sunlight when the weather allows and get your Vitamin-D the way mother nature intended.
