Beet Juice and Erectile Performance
The scientific community started to get excited about beetroot a decade ago.
When a study showed that red beetroot juice could be effective to reduce blood pressure – or BP – in otherwise healthy men and women.
The theory back then was that the nitrites* contained in the beet could substantially decrease blood pressure.
And also, inhibit blood clotting and prevent endothelial dysfunction (endothelial cells line your blood vessels and they need to dilate well in order to prevent strokes and heart attacks).
*Nitrites are a source for the potent nitric oxide, a vasodilator that ensures a lovely blood flow.
Over time, a myriad of studies on the subject appeared trying to solve the mystery connecting beetroot juice to an improved BP.
For instance, a more recent study found that, in overweight men, beet juice was far more effective with a meal, and more precisely a meal rich in healthy fats. (1)
This does suggest that some compound in the juice may be fat soluble and are better absorbed by our bodies with a meal rather than alone.
Another study published in 2016 gave the 69 participants a nitrate rich beet juice for 6 weeks.
However, the results were not statistically significant but a small decrease of BP was observed and beet juice was effective at improving vascular function. (2)
As you go through the scientific literature on beet juice, you will observe incoherent results. Some studies will have far more successful results and others, not quite as much.
Which tells us that we still have much more to learn about the pretty red beet!
But when it comes to beet juice or powder for better erectile performance, is there any correlation?
Well, the studies mentioned show that nitrate rich beet juice or powder is indeed a good way to prevent vascular issues and improve upon them.
Thus, by doing so, to put it simply, your improve your blood flow and consequently, that’s more blood that gets to your willy!
But how does it work?
Beet Juice or Powder for Better Erectile Performance
When it comes to erectile dysfunction – or ED – beet juice could help by improving blood flow.
So, basically what happens is that the nitrates found in the beet will be converted into nitric oxide by your body.
This is gas that serves as a vasodilator to open blood vessels and to maintain pressure in the corpus cavernosum, the area that allows you to maintain an erection.
Basically, the corpus cavernosum is an erectile tissue rich in blood vessels.
When you get hard, your brain and nerve signals will cause this tissue to relax and become engorged with precious blood.
And with all that blood “trapped”, an erection is triggered.
How to Benefit from Beet Juice or Powder?
To get the best from your beets, get them fresh and make your own juice with a processor or a juicer. Also, you can add the greens for extra goodness!
